ADMINISTRATIVE INFORMATION

Historical Note

Daedalus is the quarterly journal of the American 鶹ýվ. In 1978 Daedalus released an issue titled “A New America”. Activity related to the publication spanned from 1974-1978. The issue focused on themes of racism, equality, intellectuality, and the American work ethic. The Editor was Stephen R. Graubard. Geno Ballotti was the Managing Editor. Katharine O. Parker was the Manuscripts Editor for this issue.

Planning for the issue and conference began in 1974 with Editor Stephen R. Graubard compiling lists of potential participants to contribute articles and topics he would like covered. A planning conference was held in Washington D.C at the Woodrow Wilson International Center from 28-29 January 1977. The conference was attended by Graubard, authors, and observers. It concluded with final edits incorporating their comments. Authors in attendance included McGeorge Bundy, Elizabeth Hardwick, John T. Dunlop, and Louise Weinberg.

Through his correspondence, Graubard noted the quality of discussions and the essays being produced. The issue was published in Winter 1978 and Graubard felt “A New America” to be one of the more important Daedalus issues to date.

Funding was provided by the Ford Foundation and the Carnegie Corporation.
