L. Ebony Boulware, MD, MPH, is Dean of Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Chief Academic Officer for Advocate Health. In these roles, she leads education, training, and academic strategy across Advocate Health, the nation’s third-largest nonprofit health system. Wake Forest University School of Medicine delivers MD, nursing, physician assistant, and biomedical sciences education through an integrated dual-campus model. Dr. Boulware oversees the Wake Forest University Health Sciences research enterprise, with an annual extramural portfolio exceeding $450 million, and directs more than 240 graduate medical education programs across six states. As Chief Academic Officer, she provides enterprise leadership for undergraduate, graduate, and continuing medical education; research integration; and the development of system-wide academic platforms that align education, discovery, and clinical care. An internationally recognized physician-scientist, Dr. Boulware’s research spans epidemiology, health services research, and implementation science, with a focus on mechanisms underlying poor health outcomes and persistent health inequities among individuals with and at risk for chronic kidney disease and other chronic illnesses. Her work has informed clinical practice and health policy nationally and contributed to advances in translational science and the biomedical workforce.
